After My First Script

Like everyone else in this world, I to have big dreams. Dreams to become a star, famous and have boobies, wait this isn't a Pussycat dolls song. But everyone in the world has that dream to become famous and no one can explain rationally why. You only hear money, money, money!!! It seems as if you could get away with killing each other for money everyone would do that for living. Likewise I have always had the dream of being in Hollywood either actor, director, writer whatever you name it. But I have other reasons than money to pursue these dreams even though money is pretty high up there. My ultimate dream is to be on Saturday Night Live because I feel like I've connected with that show and a lot of people do seem to think I'm funny. Or maybe there laughing at my attempts to be funny. I have tried to jump start these dreams many times but something always stops me, either half way there or just in pre-production and not even really accomplished anything yet. But the one thing that keeps me going is the fear and the drive till the end. The main reason why I want to be famous and successful so someone notices me. The reason I am starting this blog today, the reason I wake up everyday is because I want someone to notice me. This someone is Taylor Swift, and yes I know what everyone is thinking. How is this regular guy, not even regular guy going to accomplish this. This is true but I am committed and I have seen the things social media has done and can do today. So lets just say this was pretty much the biggest step towards the goal, getting started. I am destined to be with Taylor Swift just do your research about her and the type of guy that is perfect for her. Use that as a criteria to my blogs, tweets, etc and you'll see that I am the perfect match.P.S. This whole blogs was showing you how confident I am but with quiet confidence. (CHECK)

Halloween - Curse or Pleasure

I guess I musn't be a fun person... Staying indoors whilst everyone is in the street scaring everyone with their costumes, and pedophiles are waiting by the sidelines, always praying for this day to come quicker when they can get a "quick fix". Meanwhile I'm indoors, just writing... or mucking about. I wonder if as those trick or treater's leave, they look back at my house and say, 'there lives one sad man' or 'he needs a girlfriend' or even in some weirder cases 'hey that old man in the street there is giving out lollies! You see him! The one right next to the white van'.
So maybe I should show you my timetable for this tiresome night.
6:00-8:00 = Watching my episodes of Doctor Who and Being Human
8:00-9:30 = moshing by myself to an invisible band, with my stereo on loud.
9:30 onwards = wondering why I didnt use pick up lines on those chicks who where trick or treating earlier..... yes it is a sad life.
So maybe you should go out there and trick or treat? I personally don't know why people follow american tradition... We should have our own aussie thing on that day like... wrestle a crocodile or weirder yet: sacrifice a wranger to get rid of Julia Gillard.... She does have a big nose... And has never returned one of my emails I have sent her, which is annoying for me

Cheers

About 12 years ago I was in a accident that fractured my skull, did damage to my right ear drom and shattered my right ankle. The results of this accident are still in my dreams yet today. After finally being released from 2 weeks in the hospital I spent nearly a month in bed or well basically off my feet. As you might imagine I spen't alot of time watching tv and more specifally comedy central. I fell in love with the art of stand up comedy. Now it's nearly 12 years later and to be honest with everyone I've dreamed about performing but yet never have. The mid sized town that I live in n longer has a comedy club, and very few places have open mic's. Well just so to eliminate the thought that I'm just a dreamer and very lazy. I am now taking actions to make sure that I get a shot on stage. I am forming a Comedy team that will feature stand up comedy, sketch comedy, and improv as well as musical parody's.I'm able to do this now because of the place that I work. Although severly under paid for the kind of work that I do (who isn't in this economy) the Park Place Hotel has meeting rooms and when they are not booked I can use them to meet with the team and reherse my material.I'm sure that the team when finally formed will be successful in the Traverse City area. However I don't won't to be confined to just a single city and the surrounding are'as. I would love to think that we can produce a show that could go out on a full tour of the us, and then who know's the world. Heck if your going to dream, why not dream big?Thank's for reading. If your interested in the team and would like to see what we can do we will put video's online at the website visit my profile ps,why is panties plural and bra singular?

I admit I often get discouraged and fail to create. Why? Because it seems that those who seek to bring laughter, light and joy into the world will be the ones to get cheated or sold out by those who hold the ways of greed, manipulation or deceit. Then, the other day, I read online about Mr. Tom Shadyac . A person who made millions of dollars as a director of major-motion pictures. As someone who had the proverbial fame and fortune that we feel we are all seeking.

There are times in our lives when things don’t work the way we think they should. Since early in 2009 I started writing comedic monologues. It just started to flow out of me. I had noticed prior to this that I had a knack for writing letters. I would respond to a newspaper story that got up my nose and I felt I needed to address the authors view with my own perspective. Or I had a presentation of some sort to make that required a letter to introduce the ideas. Well I just did it well, I don’t really know why because it wasn’t something I grew up with. Or maybe I did but just never realised I could write.

My own approach to comedic writing -- for what it's worth. Years ago, when I was a corporate-America slob, I tried to write comedy on the side. Although I did a few things, it never added up to what I wanted to do. Or thought I was capable of doing. It took years of basically personal, life experiences to allow me to see further. For whatever it's worth, I'll share what I discovered about myself with others. Maybe there's others like me out there, and I feel our world needs that. More than ever.

Setting Goals
Fail to plan= Plan to fail
My biggest fan and really, the one who pushed me onto performing, instead of just writing, has been my wife. And in all of our thirty plus year history together she’s been the one with unstoppable drive. That opening statement is what she’s spoken out to our children and I over all these years; that and setting goals.
Well she’s right. All my writing and intentions to someday performing as a stand up, would have gotten me probably as far as my bathroom mirror. If you really want to take that step into performing but can’t move on from “I know the stage is around here somewhere; I just can’t find the stairs”. Well you need to set yourself a goal. And it can’t be without a timeline. Ninety days is plenty of time to prepare for almost any goal. Get your material, 90 days to create. Practice your material to the point where you know it well enough to speak without losing your place. And then find a place to stand up and perform it
-90days-.
But without a goal you’ll just drift around with a whole bunch of desire and no way to complete.
I wrote much of my comedy in early 2009 and still had it all ready to go when I was challenged with not having a goal in April of 2010. So I set that timeline goal telling my wife and closest friends, ‘I will perform stand up comedy on or before June 15th 2010. I’ve done that now and have a new goal.; to have myself on utube performing my stand up material before the end of the summer.
What’s your goal? Don

One thing I learned in that stand up spot to the 80 women was about getting stuck.Getting stuck in stand up is I think one of the biggest stumbling blocks we face. At my last birthday we had a restaurant room rented and had dinner with about 20 friends. During dinner my friends pushed to do a stand up piece of my material. I wasn’t practiced and tried but got stuck when I lost my place and then had to face the giants in my mind that all pointed in different directions on where to take my

My First Stand Up

I’ve always enjoyed comedy. Back in my teens I used to collect the albums of comedians like Bill Cosby and later George Carlin. But I especially got turned on to the Monty Python comedy group. They’re random turns in topic and crazy dry sense of humour appealed to me. I think my very first stand up comedy routine happened in my grad 11 high school class. The teacher left the class suddenly to tend to something at the office. The class sat there for a minute silently working on their assignments. Then this crazy idea came into my head. I had listened to this Monty Python record, of skits from their show, so much; I knew some of it by heart. So I reacted to this crazy idea and jumped up in front of the class and spouted off this skit in a poor English accent, then sat down before the teacher had a chance to return. I was told months later I would always be remembered in school for that event. I never did anything like that again but always wanted to become comfortable speaking in...

How Do You Find An Audience?

I've tried the stand up for only a while now (about 4 or 5 attempts). But it's been enough to get a sense of what audience I feel will find my humour to their taste.
The college age crowd are young and crazy and that's great but my humour and topics tend to focus on the life of us aging souls. So how do I find that audience to play to? I've got 2 local amateur friendly comedy clubs in my area but they both are heavy duty, raw comedy and I don't fit. I've had one performance to my age group and they really responded well. So now I'm on the hunt for that kind of opportunity to play to 'my people'. They ''get me'', we understand each other. We see the curtain slowly closing on life and know it's funny if you look at the details.
So I'm looking for ideas on where I might find that. College is too young and Old folks homes too old. Cruise ships, maybe... Any ideas?

Stand up downfalls

When I think of what makes Stand up comedy so tuff I can only find a few things that are what I consider tuff in this decipline. Being infront of a crowd, large or small, brings fear into many. I don't find being in front of people to be all that scary. But what I find the most anoying is getting stuck while delivering my material. Then the presence of the crowd comes into play and makes getting stuck even harder to contend with. I find myself rabbit trailing; trying to find my way back to the track that I was on. But sometimes it is so hard to regain my place. And in worst case it leads to a freezing up.
I wonder what sort of skills or tricks other stand ups have for dealing with getting stuck. Penny for your thoughts?

I remember when George Carlin opened up the swearing thing with his '7 words you can't say on Television'. I found that so funny. But it was like the gauntlet fell or something. A few decades later and much of club and late night comedy finds it's self depending on swearing to be funny. I think it is a part of the generation that is coming up now because even comedians, not known for that in their acts, seem to adjust their material to accommodate the younger audience. I read the review of stand up Tim Allen's show and the critic wrote exactly that. Saying Tim's show had decayed into a constant punctuation of 'F'ing that seemed to be his attempt to suit what was a younger audience.

When I am searching for material to turn into comedy (as stand-up material) I don't really search for it. It just appears. For instance, I had bought and set a mouse trap up in my house, the idiot could have stayed for all I cared, but then he starts pooing in the house. So I have this new style trap; a piece of very sticky cardboard that you place with some bait on it.
So I'm sitting there in the kitchen when my new house guest, who has become stuck to the paper, and is wriggling around trying to get free but causing the paper to move as he does his impression of a Michael Jackson dance move sending the paper moving out into the middle of the kitchen and I immediately start to imagine what 'Tiny Dancer' is thinking.
That is what I find comedy in lots of the time; thinking what people, animals or even inanimate objects would be thinking in response to situations.
The dog smells a lamp post: "Gee, I know this guy! What's he doin marking my territory?!"
And so one...
What do you find drives your creative juices to write?
