While I have always had a good sense of humor, I never had the quickness of mind or memory power to ever consider doing comedy (writing or stand-up).Then in May of 2007 I had brain surgery (no joke). The surgery was meant to correct an epilepsy condition that had revisited my life after 20+ years of being under control. It did correct the condition, but within days of having it done, it became apparent something else was changed. Miraculously I was now thinking faster, processing thoughts much quicker. And I had an excellent memory now, that I had never had before. I emailed the surgeon, discribing the new heightened mental powers discribing the apparent changes with this statement: "I feel as if I could be in an improv comedy group, I am thinking that fast". Little did I know that statement was prophetic. About 9 months later I found myself writing comedy monologues; thinking I might be writing this comedy for someone else. Then I was encouraged by my wife to not just write but to perform as well. And I am now beginning to do stand up comedy at open mic clubs in my home town.So I give permission to students and auditioning actors to use my scripts for school and amateur applications, but reserve any professional applications of my scripts for my own stand up act.
